Key actions to curb antimicrobial resistance: Policy brief for Parliamentarians

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a significant global threat to public health and development, potentially leading to 39 million deaths and 169 million deaths between 2025 and 2050. AMR also threatens global food security, with agrifood systems facing increasing pressure to provide safe, nutritious food. Systemic challenges, such as limited capacity to diagnose and treat infections, suboptimal healthcare delivery, and insufficient vaccination coverage, contribute to AMR. Inadequate management of effluents and wastes further exacerbates the problem.
